UNPRI Faculty of Teacher Training and Education and the North Sumatra Language Center Host Creative Language Krida: Essay Writing for Students
A Tangible Form of UNPRI's Commitment to Strengthening Literacy Culture and Critical Thinking Skills for the Young Generation.

Medan – The collaboration between the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) and the North Sumatra Province Language Center (BBPSU) has once again produced a positive activity. After previously focusing on public speaking training for high school students, this activity was aimed at the student level with a discussion on the creative process of essay writing. The Creative Essay Writing Workshop (Krida Bahasa Kreatif) was held in person on Thursday (Mar 5, 2026), at the Mini Hall, 10th Floor of Universitas Prima Indonesia.
Featuring 109 participants from various majors within UNPRI, the activity was opened by Dr. Dian Syahfitri, S.S., M.Hum., as the Dean of FKIP UNPRI and the first speaker. "Orderliness in language is becoming an important thing that cannot be underestimated. Writing is a productive skill, a continuation of a person's reading process. The more material read, the better we can pour it into an essay," said the Dean of FKIP. This proves that UNPRI continues to innovate in honing students' literacy competence to become competent and high-quality graduates.
The link between the importance of linguistics in essay writing was further strengthened by the next speaker. Showing language phenomena occurring in society, Hasan Al Banna, as the second speaker, shared a unique perspective on writing essays. "As someone who likes taking pictures, I really like capturing unique language phenomena in society. There are many things to discuss in an essay if we focus on discussing these phenomena," he explained.

This workshop is a follow-up activity carried out by the North Sumatra Province Language Center Development Team across several campuses in the North Sumatra region to improve students' essay writing skills. Featuring Gracinta Bianda, a student who served as the North Sumatra Language Ambassador, participants were encouraged to participate in the development of the Indonesian language through essays. At the end of the series, 10 of the best essays will be selected to represent North Sumatra at the national level.
Through this activity, FKIP UNPRI and the North Sumatra Province Language Center hope to continue coaching students in developing writing skills while preserving and developing the Indonesian language to support the Go International vision.
