Strengthens Synergy Between UNPRI and BPOM in the National Research Ecosystem

Medan, August 6, 2026 — Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) once again welcomed a prominent national figure to campus. The Head of the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), Prof. Dr. Taruna Ikrar, M.Biomed., Ph.D., served as the keynote speaker in a public lecture titled "From Knowledge to Innovation: How to Be a World Class Researcher" on Thursday (August 6, 2026) at the UNPRI Main Hall. The event drew approximately 1,000 UNPRI students, making it one of the most historic academic forums ever held on campus.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials and unit heads from BPOM; UNPRI Vice Rector II for HR, Finance, and Facilities, Prof. Dr. Ermi Girsang, M.Kes., M.Biomed., AIFO.; Vice Rector IV, Dr. dr. Ali Napiah Nasution, MKT., MKM., Sp.KKLP(K).; directors across Prima Group; along with deans, study program heads, and faculty members of UNPRI.
In his opening remarks, UNPRI Vice Rector IV Dr. dr. Ali Napiah Nasution stated that the Head of BPOM's visit is both an honor and a profound motivation for the academic community. "This is an extraordinary honor for UNPRI and a strong motivator for us to continue advancing in education and scientific research. Today's topic aligns seamlessly with Indonesia's strategic direction — higher education must transform and offer tangible solutions to society," he said.
Opening the lecture session, Prof. Taruna Ikrar emphasized his close bond with UNPRI. "I am part of Universitas Prima Indonesia — in 2025, UNPRI conferred upon me the title of Professor Honoris Causa, an honor I carry with deep responsibility," he remarked. In his inspiring presentation, he shared his extensive journey as a researcher — from Hasanuddin University's Faculty of Medicine, a master's degree in Biomedicine at the University of Indonesia, doctoral studies under a Japanese government scholarship at Niigata University specializing in cardiovascular diseases, to a post-doctoral program in neuroscience at the School of Medicine, University of California, USA. He is also recognized as a holder of the human brain mapping patent since 2009 and a member of the drug and vaccine research team at ASGCT California, USA.

The presence of BPOM officials alongside the UNPRI academic community in a single forum symbolizes a robust synergy between national regulatory bodies and higher education institutions in building an impactful research ecosystem.
