UNPRI Faculty of Economics Successfully Holds Seminar: Become a Studentpreneur? Who's Afraid!
UNPRI Students Encouraged to Become Resilient Studentpreneurs, UNPRI Open Day 2025
Medan, The Faculty of Economics, Universitas Prima Indonesia (FE UNPRI) successfully held a seminar entitled "Becoming a Studentpreneur? Who's Afraid!", which was held on Wednesday (5/2/2025) at the UNPRI Campus, Jln. Sampul No. 3 Medan, attended by students and high school students in Medan City.
After being opened by the Dean of FE UNPRI, Dr. Fajar Rezeki Ananda Lubis, SE, MSM., resource person Dr. Salman Faris, S.Si, MM., in his presentation said that the demographic bonus that Indonesia currently has cannot simply occur when the number of productive age population is large, but must be accompanied by an increase.
"UNPF states that a country can enjoy a demographic bonus when everyone enjoys good health, quality education, decent work, and the independence of young people," he said.
Salman explained that every country must go through the Demographic Bonus era and this only happens once in the history of a nation. If a country is not ready to face the demographic bonus, then what will happen is a demographic disaster, one of which is high unemployment which can cause potential social conflict.
According to him, currently, of the total population of Indonesia, 48% are filled by Generation Y and Z. So what do Generation Y and Z want to be? According to him, the ideal is to become an entrepreneur. "Entrepreneurs or entrepreneurs are people who are clever or talented in recognizing new products, determining new production methods, also arranging operations for procuring new products, marketing them, and managing their operating capital. This arises from entrepreneurship," he said.
According to Salman, the goals of entrepreneurship include supporting the emergence of small businesses, community welfare, and fostering a spirit of innovation. The benefits of entrepreneurship include providing opportunities to control one's own destiny, providing opportunities to make changes, providing opportunities to achieve full potential, providing opportunities to gain unlimited profits, providing opportunities to play a role in society and gain recognition for one's efforts, providing opportunities to do something one likes and enjoys doing it.
Meanwhile, the stages of becoming an entrepreneur according to the Head of Management Study Program, FE UNPRI, include the starting stage, where someone then intends to do business. Then the stage of implementing the business. An entrepreneur then manages various aspects related to his business.
Next is the stage of maintaining the business. The stages of an entrepreneur in conducting analysis and also being able to overcome the problems being faced. Then the stage of developing a business. Entrepreneurs have successfully overcome various problems in their business.
To be successful as entrepreneurs, Salman asked college and high school students who attended the seminar to have sociopreneurship, namely someone who tries to use various business methods to solve common problems.
“A sociopreneur must dare to take risks, and strive to provide a positive impact through various initiatives that are carried out. If businesses in general try to pursue the highest possible profit, however, it is different from sociopreneurship. Sociopreneurship has much more emphasis on social issues than profit alone. However, that does not mean that sociopreneurship ignores profit. Sociopreneurship still generates profit. However, the profit is used more to create a positive action than for personal gain," he said.
The measure of success of sociopreneurship is when the business is able to provide a significant positive impact on the world. Salman added that the characteristics of sociopreneurship include focusing on social missions, having a large scale of impact, being innovative and open to feedback.
"Generation Y and Z often view money as the most important thing when starting a business, whereas in addition to Capital of Sociopreneurship, intellectual capital is very important. Capital is an important component in running the daily operations of a business, as well as to finance its growth in value in the future. In addition, intellectual capital (intangible assets) in the form of information resources and knowledge that function to increase competitiveness and can improve company performance," he said.
Jholant Bringg Luck Amelia Sinaga, SE, MM, M.Ak., as the moderator, when closing the seminar conveyed the conclusion, it is necessary to improve the quality of human resources in order to compete in the world of work, one of which is to become an entrepreneur.
