US President Barack Obama launched YSEALI (Young Southeast Asia Leaders Initiative), consisting of bright young leaders aged 18-35 from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma, Philippines, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
"Young leaders have innovative ideas to address what they have identified as their generation's greatest challenges in the ASEAN region, regarding economic development, environmental protection, education, and community engagement," said Charge de Affairs (Acting United States Ambassador) Briah McFeeters giving a public lecture in front of students of Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI), Thursday (8/9) at the Universitas Prima Indonesia Hall on Jalan Ayahanda Medan.
Present at the public lecture with material on 'Enterpreneurship and Youth Leadership in Indonesia' were UNPRI founder Dr. I Nyoman Ehrich Lister MKes AIFM, BPH Chair Dr. Tommy Leonard SH MKn, UNPRI Chancellor Dr. Djakobus Tarigan AAI DAAK, Royal Prima Hospital Director Dr. Ali Nafiah Nasution, Vice Chancellor I Seno Aji SPd MEng Prac, Vice Chancellor II Ermi Girsang SKM MKes, Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Computer Science Abdi Dharma SKom MKom, Vice Dean of FE Unpri-Hendry SE MM and UNPRI students.
Brian McFeeters also mentioned that the US partners with extraordinary young people by providing training. The US is proud to support the Young Southeast Asian Leaders initiative, because it believes that young people are instrumental in planning the future of Southeast Asia. He hopes that UNPRI students can learn more about YSEALI. When US President Barack Obama was young, he started out as a community organizer ensuring that people in his community received job training, and assistance in obtaining college degrees. He knows from personal experience that young people can be powerful agents for good in their communities. "YSEALI carries on President Obama's legacy by enhancing community leadership among young people in the Southeast Asian region," he said.
