DKV UNPRI Students Shine at the 436th Anniversary of Medan City
Showcasing Innovation through Live Painting and Official Logo Competition Nominations
Medan, May 25, 2026 — The 436th Anniversary celebration of Medan City, held at the Atrium Plaza Medan Fair on Monday (May 25, 2026), became a prestigious stage for the creativity of Visual Communication Design (DKV) students from Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI). Invited by the Medan City Tourism Office, three DKV UNPRI students took part in this historic event, proving that UNPRI students’ work is highly recognized and trusted by the municipal government.
The Medan City Tourism Office specifically invited DKV UNPRI students to perform live painting in two mediums. Katlyn Limada, a second-semester student, showcased a canvas painting blending Medan’s heritage buildings with modern skyscrapers. The piece was presented directly to the Mayor of Medan, Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas, as a symbol of appreciation for the city's cultural preservation and progress. Meanwhile, Paldeta Haposan Yobelius Tranapa Nababan, a fourth-semester student, performed a digital live painting, exploring Medan’s visual aesthetics through an innovative contemporary approach.
Beyond live performances, DKV UNPRI also excelled in the 436th Anniversary logo design competition, which attracted around 180 participants from across Indonesia. Muhammad Alif Murtadho, an eighth-semester student, successfully reached the Top 6 nominations — a remarkable achievement that placed him among the best designers in a highly competitive pool. The competition was eventually won by Rizki with the "Medan Tangguh" concept, which is now officially adopted as the city's visual identity for national and international events.
The involvement of DKV UNPRI students in these three roles — canvas painting, digital painting, and logo competition — reflects UNPRI's commitment to facilitating student talent, ensuring they constantly innovate in real-world public spheres. The trust placed by the Medan City Tourism Office serves as a testament that UNPRI’s curriculum goes beyond theory, providing a platform for students to refine their creativity. Through this continuous support, UNPRI ensures that every student grows into a competent and high-quality designer, ready to contribute to urban development and the national creative industry.
