President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto revealed that Indonesia currently still lacks doctors and specialist doctors. All medical faculties at universities across Indonesia are only capable of producing 3,500 specialist doctors annually, while Indonesia needs 6,000 specialist graduates annually.
Therefore, President Prabowo Subianto has asked Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and Minister of Higher Education and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yulianto to immediately increase the number of educational facilities for doctors, specialists, and nurses, as mandated by Law No. 17/2023 and its implementing regulations stipulated in Government Regulation No. 28/2024.
To support the Asta Cita (Asta Cita) launched by President Prabowo Subianto, the Minister of Health and Mendiktisaintek invited universities appointed to manage the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) to attend the Launch of the Accelerated Program for the Fulfillment and Distribution of Doctors and Specialists through the Academic Health System, Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Kemdiktisaintek Office on Jln. To implement these three points, a Task Force (SATGAS) was established to Accelerate Access to and Improve the Quality of Medical Personnel Education through the Academic Health System. Its duties include mapping partnerships between medical faculties and teaching hospitals, mapping necessary policy deregulations, developing programs and strategies for implementing the fulfillment of specialist doctors, developing a roadmap and timeline for program implementation, developing program guidelines, and strengthening communication strategies for policymakers at various levels of government.
