UNPRI Faculty of Economics Lecturers Hold Digital Transaction and Cashless Consumer Behavior Education for MSMEs in Bangun Rejo Village

UNPRI Economic Experts Provide Digital Financial Literacy Training to Encourage MSMEs in Bangun Rejo Village to Conduct Cashless Transactions

The Faculty of Economics at Universitas Prima Indonesia (FE UNPRI) once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening local MSMEs through a Community Service Program (PKM) held at the Bangun Rejo Village Head Office, Tanjung Morawa District, Deli Serdang Regency, on Monday (17/11/2025), with the theme “Digital Transaction Education for MSMEs: Understanding Cashless Consumer Behavior in the Fintech Era.”

The PKM activity was attended by 20 MSME entrepreneurs from the UP2K PKK Bangun Rejo Village, engaged in culinary businesses, fashion, and other home industries. Most participants still relied on cash payments and were not familiar with digital transaction systems. Their enthusiastic presence showed a strong desire to improve their ability to face the rapid growth of the digital economy.

The FE UNPRI lecturer team was led by Esther Praja Anggriany Panggabean, S.E., M.Si., as the team leader, accompanied by team members: Rafida Khairani, S.E.I., M.Si.; Mas Intan Purba, S.Si., M.Si.; Isna Asdiani Nasution, S.Sos., M.I.Kom., M.M.; Tantri Octora Dwi Syah Putri, S.Si., M.Si., M.M.; Jholant Bringg Luck Amelia br Sinaga, S.E., M.M., M.Ak.; and Dr. Nurul Wardani Lubis, S.E., M.Si. All lecturers actively participated in delivering materials and assisting participants.

The event started at 14:30 WIB with an opening by the MC, Rafida Khairani, followed by a prayer led by Isna Asdiani Nasution. The atmosphere became warm and lively when Yeti Mesno, representing the PKK of Bangun Rejo Village, delivered her speech. She expressed appreciation to FE UNPRI for organizing the program, acknowledging that many MSME entrepreneurs still lacked knowledge about digital transactions.

In her remarks, Yeti emphasized that the ability to understand financial technology is crucial for rural MSMEs so they do not fall behind in a market increasingly driven by cashless payments. She hoped the training would broaden the participants’ insights into the benefits of e-wallets, QRIS, and digital marketing opportunities.

The first material was delivered by Mas Intan Purba, who explained changes in consumer shopping behavior in the digital era. He described how consumers today prefer fast, practical, and secure digital shopping and increasingly choose non-cash payment methods. This session helped participants understand the need to adapt to new consumer patterns.

The second material was presented by Tantri Octora Dwi Syah Putri, who discussed the types of products and services currently attracting digital consumers. She explained that modern consumers pay greater attention to product visual quality, appealing packaging, and easily accessible information through social media.

After that, Jholant Bringg Luck Amelia explained the most effective digital platforms for selling MSME products. She demonstrated how entrepreneurs can utilize marketplaces, Facebook Marketplace, and WhatsApp Business as affordable and easy marketing tools.

The fourth material was delivered by Rafida Khairani, who reviewed digital payment methods such as DANA, OVO, and QRIS. She emphasized that digital consumers demand fast, secure, and efficient payment processes. Therefore, MSME entrepreneurs who do not provide cashless payment options may risk losing customers.

Following the presentation session, the activity continued with a practical demonstration, which became the most engaging part for participants. The lecturer team demonstrated product photography techniques using a white cloth backdrop and ring light. Participants were shown comparison photos between proper and improper techniques, helping them understand how visual presentation influences consumer interest.

Participants were also guided on creating short and attractive captions, setting up WhatsApp Business profiles, creating product catalogs, and activating auto-reply features. The training session became even more interactive when participants began registering DANA, OVO, and activating QRIS on the spot with assistance from the lecturers.

Based on observations from the PKM team, around 70 percent of participants successfully activated their WhatsApp Business accounts and began uploading product photos taken during the training. Many also gained a better understanding of the benefits of using e-wallets as part of modernizing their businesses.

Toward the end of the event, FE UNPRI presented a plaque of appreciation to the Bangun Rejo Village representatives as a symbol of collaboration and shared commitment to empowering MSMEs. The program concluded with a cheerful group photo session.

This PKM activity is expected to serve as an important first step in strengthening the digital literacy of MSME entrepreneurs in Bangun Rejo Village. The FE UNPRI lecturers hope the training will encourage entrepreneurs to continue growing, adapting, and utilizing digital technology to improve their competitiveness in the future.
