Unique Action! The UNPRI Faculty of Agrotechnology's PKKMB Conducts a Long March, Semi-Military Training, and Firefighters' Water Spray

New Agro Technology Students at UNPRI participated in PKKMB enthusiastically with a series of physical and community activities.

UNPRI, Medan – The 2025 Student Orientation Program (PKKMB) of the Faculty of Agro Technology, Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI), was held in a vibrant and distinctive way compared to other faculties. This PKKMB was packaged under the name POP (Planters Orientation Program), a physical, mental, and discipline training program designed to prepare freshmen to become professional planters as well as future leaders.

The event, held from Monday (September 8, 2025) to Friday (September 12, 2025), was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Agro Technology, Dr. Suratni Afrianti, S.T., M.Si., accompanied by the Head of Agrotechnology Study Program, Andry Admaja Tarigan, S.P., M.Agr., the Head of Agribusiness Study Program, Laura Juita Pinem, S.Si., M.M., the Secretary of Agribusiness Study Program, Muhamad Arif Nasution, S.P., M.P., as well as the Head of UNPRI’s PPKPT Task Force, Dr. Bayu Pratomo, S.ST., M.P. Their presence, along with lecturers and staff of the Faculty of Agro Technology, reaffirmed UNPRI’s commitment to producing graduates who are work-ready, mentally resilient, and internationally competitive.

This year, 170 freshmen from the Agrotechnology and Agribusiness undergraduate programs took part in the PKKMB, consisting of regular students, BPDPKS scholarship recipients, and KIP-Kuliah awardees. All participants received physical training and marching drills (PBB) led by BABINSA instructors, as well as a long march of 58 km from the Deli Serdang border to the UNPRI Campus on Jalan Danau Singkarak. Teamwork-based games were also held to foster solidarity and cooperation. In addition, students participated in park clean-ups, tree planting, and talent shows as platforms for self-expression. These activities were designed to cultivate resilience, discipline, and visionary leadership—hallmarks of Agro Technology UNPRI graduates.

In her remarks, Dr. Suratni Afrianti expressed her appreciation and pride in the freshmen’s choice of UNPRI as the place to shape their future. She emphasized that the Faculty of Agro Technology UNPRI, with its two BAN-PT “Excellent” accredited study programs—Agrotechnology and Agribusiness—is the only faculty in Indonesia focused on oil palm plantations. This strategic commodity serves as a key contributor to national foreign exchange, a major source of employment, and a vital raw material for downstream industries.

As in previous years, the Planters Orientation Program (POP) was again implemented in PKKMB. This is likened to a land clearing process—a crucial initial stage determining future success. Similarly, this orientation serves as the foundation for character-building, mental strength, and discipline among freshmen. UNPRI’s excellence is not only evident in its ever-updated curriculum, developed through smart farming systems aligned with the Outcome Based Education (OBE) framework, but also in its state-of-the-art IT-based laboratories and the semi-military culture instilled to foster discipline from the very start of academic life.

The excitement of PKKMB reached its peak during the closing session when the faculty invited the fire department (Damkar). The refreshing water spray from the fire truck created laughter, camaraderie, and relief after five days of intensive semi-military-style training. This moment symbolized both the release of fatigue and the creation of unforgettable memories that students will carry throughout their academic journey. With its unique approach—integrating hard skills in agrotechnology and agribusiness with soft skills such as discipline, leadership, and social responsibility—the Faculty of Agro Technology UNPRI reaffirms its position as a center of excellence, producing graduates who are work-ready, resilient, and socio-technopreneurs with IT-based vision, in line with the university’s mission.
