Language Education in Digital Space: The Perspective of Learning Freedom
Language and Literature Festival is a routine activity held by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, UNPRI. The theme of the 2023 Language and Literature Festival is "Language Education in the Digital Space: Perspective of Freedom of Learning
The aspect of understanding digital culture refers to the development of information and communication technology which is very dynamic and significant so that language education is interpreted as an open and dynamic process. In the shift of learning space from classical to digital, an understanding of digital culture is needed, being smart and careful in using language in the digital space, and how independent learning in digital literacy is expected to foster local wisdom.
Furthermore, the world of language education must accommodate creative learning in the digital era, how educational technology now makes learning more effective and efficient. Language and literature learning is expected to be able to encourage the growth of dimensions of creativity and critical thinking skills in students related to problem solving.
The Language and Literature Festival event was held on Monday, January 16, 2023 and Tuesday, January 17, 2023. The second day was the peak of the event which took place at the Hall of Universitas Prima Indonesia, Jalan Sampul 4, Medan City.
Series of GBS events These include the National Seminar on Language which is held in a hybrid manner with speakers from academics, researchers, students, and competent practitioners in the field. This national seminar invites keynote speakers:
1. Prof. E. Aminudin Aziz, Ph. D.: Head of the Language Development and Fostering Agency, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology
2. Laura Wimsett: Professional Learning Lead at Wesley College
In addition to the seminar, several competitions were held on January 16, 2023, including poetry reading competitions, speech competitions, public speaking, news anchors which were attended by dozens of participants from high schools/vocational schools throughout North Sumatra, as well as a video learning competition for teachers.
It is hoped that this activity can explore the interests, talents and potential of the younger generation regarding education, language, and literature in supporting independent learning. The event refers to how Merdeka Belajar provides freedom for teachers, students, and schools to innovate according to the local context, including ensuring that all children learn and can access learning in a language they understand, both in local and foreign languages.
