UNPRI Faculty of Law Holds Legal Language Discussion 2024

Medan, The Faculty of Law, Prima Indonesia University (FH UNPRI) held a Legal Language Discussion 2024, which was held on Thursday (5/12/2024) at Lt.17 B1709 UNPRI Campus Jln. Cover No.3 Medan recently, was attended by 30 FH UNPRI students who acted as active participants.

The 2024 Legal Language Discussion featured resource persons, Police Commissioner Y.P. Simbolon, S.I.K., M.H (North Sumatra Police), Dr. Kartina Pakpahan, S.H., M.H (Head of UNPRI Law Masters Study Program), Hidayat Widiyanto, M.Pd (Head of BBPSU) guided by Salbiyah, NA (North Sumatra Language Center Ambassador) as moderator.

In the discussion, it was stated that language is a means of bridging justice, resolving conflicts and creating harmony in society. In the realm of law, language plays an important role in explaining, negotiating and strengthening justice.

Meanwhile, the Head of BBPSU, Hidayat Widiyanto, MPd, emphasized the importance of using good and correct language in the legal realm. Hidayat hopes that the community can play an active role as problem solving agents through a language and law-based approach.

According to Gabriella Valentina Febriyanti Lumbantoruan (FH Law student at UNPRI), the discussion provided new insight into the importance of using appropriate and professional legal language in various legal documents, such as contracts, regulations and other legal documents. "My hope is that this activity can be held more frequently, both on a local and national scale, to provide more learning opportunities for law students," he said.

Meanwhile, according to Nia Perbiana Br Barus (FH UNPRI student), the discussion made her realize that language is the main tool in conveying legal norms and rules. “Carefulness in choosing words and sentence structure greatly influences the effectiveness of the law. This discussion also provides an interactive and fun learning experience. My expectations. "I hope that future discussions will cover other relevant themes, such as analysis of the text of statutory regulations, the practice of drafting legal documents, and contemporary issues related to law and language," he said.

Salsabila Diva Ananda (FH UNPRI student), felt helped in expanding her academic and professional network through interactions with other participants who came from diverse backgrounds, including linguists, legal practitioners and other students. "I hope that collaboration between language and legal experts can continue to be strengthened to create legal language standards that are clear, simple and effective," he said.
