UNPRI Strengthens Health Education Transformation through an IPE (Interprofessional Education) Public Lecture with Prof. Dr. dr. Haerani Rasyid, M.Sc., Sp.PD-KGH., Sp.GK
Strengthening Synergy Among Health Professions Toward Collaborative Practice in the Modern Era

UNPRI, Medan – Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI), the best national private university, continues its academic maneuvers to strengthen the quality of medical and health education. On Wednesday (19/11/2025), UNPRI held a Medical Public Lecture with the theme: Transforming Health Education Towards the Era of Interprofessional Education (IPE).
The activity took place in the main hall on the 10th floor of the Jalan Sampul No. 3 Medan Petisah Campus, featuring national health expert, Prof. Dr. dr. Haerani Rasyid, M.Sc., Sp.PD-KGH., Sp.GK. (Internal Medicine Specialist Subspecialist in Nephrology-Hypertension). Prof. Haerani Rasyid appreciated the enthusiasm of UNPRI students and assessed that the campus is on the right track towards strengthening the quality of national health services. The moderator for the event was Muhammad Aditya Kurnia, S.KM., MPH., Ph.D.
The event was officially opened by the UNPRI Rector, Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes., AIFO-K, who, in her speech, affirmed that IPE is one of the keys to the future of global healthcare services. According to her, UNPRI possesses a structural advantage because it houses three medical Study Program Management Units (UPPS): the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FKGK), the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIK), and the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery (FKK).
“UNPRI has the comprehensive ecosystem required for IPE implementation. All lines are available and integrated; it’s just a matter of ensuring stronger interprofessional coordination to produce a solid health team,” she said. Thousands of students from two excellent medical faculties in Medan City attended, confirming UNPRI's position as an excellent socio-technopreneurship campus that continues to innovate in modern health education.
In her speech, Prof. Chrismis also emphasized the importance of healthcare collaboration in hospitals, where various professions work side-by-side. UNPRI has an advantage because it is supported by its own Teaching Hospitals, starting from RSU Royal Prima Medan and Marelan, Prima Vision Eye Hospital, Prima Dental and Oral Hospital, UNPRI Hospital Tebing Tinggi, and the Royal Cemara Clinic, which was newly inaugurated on October 16, 2025. According to her, the medical world cannot operate alone; doctors require Nurses, clinical nutritionists, pharmacists, and other health personnel so that patient care runs comprehensively and accurately.
Concluding her remarks, Prof. Chrismis reaffirmed that collaboration-based education must become the new identity of UNPRI students. “From the time students enter the bachelor's stage up to the professional and specialist stages, the IPE concept must become a habit, not just a theory. Because it concerns human safety, collaboration is non-negotiable,” she added.
At UNPRI, the existence of various study programs, especially in FKGK which houses 19 programs (ranging from bachelor's, professional, master's, to specialist and doctoral levels), strengthens the development of interprofessional education. The specialist programs owned by FKGK, such as internal medicine, anesthesia, obgyn, radiology, family medicine, cardiology and vascular medicine, and ophthalmology, are a significant asset in conducting academic and clinical collaboration. Meanwhile, FIK offers three strategic programs: Bachelor of Public Health, Bachelor of Clinical Pharmacy, and Pharmacist Profession, making the medical collaboration process more complete. Similarly, FKK has study programs in nursing, midwifery, professional midwife, and Ners from bachelor's, professional, to master's degrees in nursing, being the pioneer and the only one in North Sumatra.
In her material presentation, Prof. Haerani explained that Interprofessional Education (IPE) is a learning approach that involves two or more health professions in one process to improve the quality of collaboration, communication, and patient safety. She emphasized that medical team conflicts and medical errors are prone to occur when interprofessional communication is weak and there is no understanding of authority boundaries. “In IPE, every profession is a partner. None is higher or lower. All complement each other for the benefit of public health,” she asserted.
Prof. Haerani also highlighted the importance of the therapist team role, in addition to pharmacy, especially clinical nutritionists who, together with doctors and nurses, are tasked with ensuring that health interventions are on target. With complete human resources, modern educational facilities, and its own hospitals, UNPRI, according to her, has a readiness far above the average of other campuses to fully implement IPE. Moreover, UNPRI is also currently proposing a Physiotherapy study program, which will further enrich the line of health professions. (YD/YanDjuna/Marketing Communications UNPRI).
UNPRI affirms its commitment to producing professional healthcare personnel who excel in interprofessional collaboration and innovation.
