UNPRI Welcomes Professor Wang Lin from Nanjing Medical University to Deliver an International Lecture on Orthodontic Treatment
International Academic Collaboration between UNPRI and Nanjing Medical University: Strengthening Dental Students’ Global Competence through Knowledge Exchange and Modern Clinical Practice
Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) once again asserts its existence as an excellent and world-class socio-technopreneurship private university through international-scale academic activities.
The implementation of cooperation with Nanjing Medical University, China, was realized in an international public lecture titled “Orthodontic Treatment” with Prof. Wang Lin, a doctor and expert in tooth extraction. The event moderator was Muhammad Aditya Kurnia, S.KM., MPH., Ph.D., who conducted the event primarily in English.
The activity, which took place on Friday (7/11/2025) in the Main Hall on the 10th Floor of the UNPRI Campus, Jalan Sampul No. 3 Medan, was officially opened by Vice Rector III, Refi Ikhtiari, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., representing the Rector Prof. Dr. Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes, AIFO-K.
Global Knowledge Transfer for Future Dentists
In his speech, the Vice Rector for student affairs and alumni affirmed that this International Public Lecture activity is a tangible part of implementing UNPRI's vision as a globally oriented socio-technopreneurship campus. Cross-national academic collaboration like this, according to him, opens space for the transfer of knowledge and technology between international medical practitioners and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FKKG), especially in the Dentistry and Professional Dentist Study Programs.
“Through the long-established strategic cooperation between UNPRI and Nanjing Medical University, students not only receive theory in the lecture hall but also gain experience and insights from globally recognized experts like Prof. Wang Lin. Therefore, during the activity, students are obliged to listen carefully, be serious, and interact,” he said.
Modern Orthodontic Principles and Facial Transformation
The activity, organized by UPPS FKKG UNPRI in collaboration with Prima Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM Prima Medan), delved into orthodontic treatment with various modern techniques, focusing on how to change tooth structure in the current clinical context without surgical procedures. Prof. Wang Lin explained various orthodontic principles, therapeutic benefits, as well as aesthetic and functional approaches to improving tooth and jaw structure that can change fate and the future and create a better facial shape. Through interactive scientific presentations using visual displays, lecture participants were invited to understand the diagnosis and treatment process in professional orthodontic practice.
Furthermore, Prof. Wang Lin emphasized the importance of synergy between aesthetic and health aspects in modern orthodontic treatment. He explained that correcting tooth structure without requiring surgical procedures is now popular, especially in China. He gave an example of a patient who came to him complaining about uneven teeth. After undergoing regular and periodic treatment, 8 months to a maximum of 3 years later, the results showed a distinct difference, being efficient and aesthetic. He also highlighted the importance of collaboration between general dentists and orthodontic specialists to provide the best service for the global community. “Orthodontic treatment is not just about enhancing a smile, but also about improving the patient's quality of life,” Prof. Wang Lin revealed during the interactive lecture session.
Speaker Profile and Cross-Faculty Synergy
The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIK) Dr. Santy Deasy Siregar, SKM., M.Kes., Vice Dean I Dr. dr. Irza Haicha Pratama, M.K.M., drg. Susanto, M.Kes., Vice Dean 4, Dr. drg. Florenly, MHSM., MPH., C.Ort., FICCDE., Head of the Master of Dental Science Study Program, drg. Shieny Lokanata, M.Biomed., Head of the Professional Doctor Study Program, drg. Cindy Denhara Wijaya, M.Biomed., and the Head of the Bachelor of Dentistry Study Program. Hundreds of participants consisting of students from various faculties listened intently to Prof. Wang's presentation. What was interesting during the international public lecture was the use of another foreign language, Mandarin, which is specially studied at UNPRI, to translate enthusiastic participants' questions, making the session attractive.
Prof. Wang Lin is a prominent figure at Nanjing Medical University, serving as Vice President of the Chinese Stomatological Association and former Vice President of the university. This marks his second visit to UNPRI since the signing of the MoU between UNPRI and Nanjing Medical University 8 years ago. He has made significant contributions to the field of dentistry, including giving lectures on modern clinical techniques and digital transformation in education. Prof. Wang Lin is also known for his achievements in stomatology. His academic work and leadership role reflect his dedication to advancing oral and dental science in China.
The international public lecture succeeded in providing a global-standard learning experience without abandoning scientific values and empathy in medical practice.
