Cooperation between UNPRI and PT PNM
Improving MSME Human Resources in North Sumatra Through RPL
Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) continues to demonstrate its commitment and contribution to the development of the community's economy through scientific research that has a real impact. One of the leading studies conducted by the UNPRI lecturer team has produced a lecture program aimed at increasing the capacity of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in North Sumatra (Sumut).
In order to support the government's program to improve the welfare of the community, UNPRI is collaborating with PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), a BUMN that focuses on providing business capital to MSMEs.
This research focuses on MSME entrepreneurs who are members of the PNM Medan Mekar cluster whose area covers Deliserdang, Binjai, Langkat, Kuala Simpang, and Langsa, with a total of 200 entrepreneurs as respondents, most of whom are housewives. As explained by the Head of Research, Ir. Deni Faisal Mirza, M.M., this study aims to assess the extent to which MSMEs fostered by PT PNM have understood business governance, financial literacy, innovation in business, and the use of e-commerce.
"The results of the study show that although many MSME entrepreneurs have great potential, they still need to increase their capacity and knowledge in various aspects," said Deni Faisal, accompanied by research members, Fauzi, SE.MM and Annisa Nauli Singa, S.E, M.Si, Mitra DUDI, Zuliana Spd, and Putri Intana Aprilia, Adinda Sofiana Putri, Nabila Azmi, Laury khana Agricha, Adinda, Annisa and Erika Damayanti Tampubolon who are also research members. Furthermore, Deni Faisal revealed that another important finding from this study is the still low level of education of MSME assistants at PT PNM, most of whom only have a high school education.
In response to this, UNPRI offers a special education program for MSMEs and PNM employees to continue their studies to S1, S2, and S3 levels. For MSMEs, they are given the opportunity to study with an incentive of Rp750,000 by UNPRI. Meanwhile, for PNM employees, this program makes it easy for PNM employees to develop themselves without having to leave their jobs. With a flexible cooperative class system, the study period can be adjusted to the work experience and competencies possessed.
"In practice, it is seen what competencies he already has. It is seen how many certificates he has obtained. Certificates, competencies, evidence that indicate he is a worker or employee who has been around for a long time will be assessed by the Previous Learning Plan (RPL) team and later cut the study period which should be 5 years, maybe only 2 years left. The MSME or employee can already enjoy education and have obtained a Bachelor's degree," explained Deni Faisal. Deni Faisal added, this also applies to MSMEs and PT PNM employees who want to continue their Masters and Doctoral studies.
Hopefully, the collaboration between UNPRI and PT PNM can improve the quality of mentoring and the performance of MSMEs in North Sumatra. "We provide opportunities for PNM employees to continue their education with the incentives and conveniences that we offer," said Deni Faisal. "Not only with PT PNM, UNPRI also establishes similar collaborations with several large national plantation companies to improve the capacity and competence of their employees.
This study proves that collaboration between educational institutions and BUMN can have a significant positive impact on society. UNPRI is committed to continuing to conduct useful research and provide real contributions to improving the welfare of the Indonesian people.*
