Towards Golden Indonesia 2045: Designing an Inclusive and Adaptive Education Policy

UNPRI Ready to be Part of Future Education Development

Indonesia is targeting to become a developed country by 2045, exactly one century since independence. To achieve this goal, education is the main foundation in building a globally competitive national civilization. Therefore, a comprehensive education policy is needed, which is in favor of quality and justice, and is able to answer the challenges of the times. The following are the pillars of the Ideal Education Policy that must be realized by the government:

  • Equal Access and Quality Improvement
  • Equitable education remains a major challenge in Indonesia. Strengthening access must be accompanied by improving quality. The government is required to allocate the education budget optimally, in line with the mandate of the constitution, to support the provision of decent and equitable learning facilities. In addition, improving the competence of teachers and lecturers is a top priority. Continuous training programs, certification, and performance-based incentives are effective strategies to encourage innovative and meaningful learning

  • Curriculum Strengthening and Learning Innovation
  • The national curriculum must be dynamic and responsive to the development of science and industry needs. The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) approach is an important foundation in preparing students to face the 21st century which demands critical, creative, and collaborative thinking skills. Learning innovations that encourage the use of technology and interactive methods also need to be strengthened, so that students are not only objects, but also subjects in the education process.

  • Development of Superior and Characterized Human Resources
  • In addition to the cognitive aspect, character education needs to receive balanced attention. National values, integrity, tolerance, and social awareness must be instilled from an early age. Religious education also has a strategic role in forming individuals who are moral and uphold cultural values. The concept of lifelong education must also be implemented through formal, non-formal, and informal channels so that all people can continue to learn and develop at all ages.

  • Adaptation to Technology and the Job Market
  • Digital transformation requires the younger generation to have high digital literacy. The curriculum must include digital competencies such as coding, data analytics, and cybersecurity. To bridge the world of education and the world of work, synergy is needed between universities and industry in the form of internships, applied research, and curriculum alignment. Vocational education also needs to be expanded and its quality improved, so that graduates have technical skills that are relevant to market needs.

  • Fair and Transparent Financing
  • The education financing system must guarantee social justice. Assistance programs such as KIP Kuliah and regional scholarships must be distributed appropriately. Management of education funds also needs to be carried out transparently and efficiently so that the use of the budget has a real impact on the quality of education. Community involvement and granting autonomy to local governments in the context of education management are also important to ensure that policies are more contextual and in line with local needs.

The ideal education policy for Indonesia is not only based on physical development and curriculum strengthening, but also on character building, technology adaptation, and community participation. Through the implementation of integrated and sustainable policies, Indonesia has a great opportunity to produce a superior, cultured, and competitive golden generation in the global arena towards 2045.
