UNPRI WITH AUSTRALIAN EXPERTS

Mr. Paul King Gives Explanation About Academic Writing to Lecturers and Students of Unpri

Expert in the field of Australian International scientific writing, Mr. Paul King (Grifffith University Queensland Australia) provided input and explanations on scientific writing (Academic Writing) to lecturers and students of Universitas Prima Indonesia (Unpri). "The main characteristic of an international journal is that it uses an international language, its "editorial boards" come from various countries or at least have "consulting editors" and "reviewers from various countries and the journal's circulation is very wide in various countries", said Mr. Paul King after the workshop held by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Prima Indonesia (FKIP UNPRI) in the Hall on the 5th floor of the Royal Prima Hospital, Jalan Ayahanda Medan, Friday, October 17, 2014.

The event was attended by the Rector of Unpri Prof. dr. Djakobus Tarigan, AAI., DAAK, Vice Rector II Ermi Girsang, SKM., M.Kes, Dean of FKIP Unpri Drs. Hilman Haidir, Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Computer Science Unpri Abdi Dharma, S Kom, Dean of the Faculty of Economics Unpri Cut Fitri Rostina, S.E., M.M., Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Economics Hendry S.E, WD I FKIP Unpri Drs. Petrus Purwanto, M.Pd and hundreds of Unpri students.

Academic Writing, said Paul, is an activity or writing activity for the purpose of (completing) a study assignment at an educational institution where the writer is currently studying. Forms of academic writing include papers (long essays), paper-works (papers or reports that need to be presented), minithesis (short thesis to obtain a bachelor's degree or diploma level), thesis (long thesis to obtain a degree above bachelor's degree). Both papers, paper-works, minithesis and thesis have the same writing method.

Paul said that publishing scientific articles in international journals has several benefits, including that scientific articles as the result of our research activities can be read by experts around the world.

Paul hopes that Unpri students will not be afraid to write in English. "I see that Unpri students are quite good at using English," said Paul smiling while saying, because some of those who asked used good English.

Paul expressed his pleasure in seeing the enthusiasm of Unpri students who listened to his presentation on scientific writing. "I am very interested in coming to Unpri, because the students have serious attention to the material I convey," said Paul again.

And Paul hopes that Unpri students will be even smarter in scientific writing. "Hopefully these Unpri students will graduate well," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Unpri Language Center, Erikson Saragih, SPd., M.Hum in the material he delivered said that writing scientific articles in international journals is actually not much different from writing scientific articles in national or local journals. However, perhaps there is a slight difference that needs to be conveyed, one of the criteria for an international scientific article is that the scientific article must be in demand by the international world. So it is universal in nature. Only scientific journals in certain fields (language, culture, and others) can contain scientific articles on a local regional scale.

In Indonesia, lecturers are still busy with fundamental issues. Although it must be admitted, there has been an improvement in lecturers' welfare, it is still far compared to colleagues in neighboring countries (Malaysia).

In this case, Saragih said the government through Dikti provides research grants for lecturers and students.

"Hopefully through this workshop, Unpri students will be motivated to write. So, Unpri students can complete their studies on time," he said.

In a separate place, PD I FKIP Unpri added, the purpose of this workshop is so that Unpri lecturers and students have the skills to write, because scientific writing has become a demand at this time. Therefore, his party brought in experts from Australia.

Unpri Rector Prof. dr. Djakobus Tarigan, AAI., DAAK, accompanied by Vice Dean (WD) I FKIP Unpri Drs. Petrus Purwanto., M.Pd instructing Mr. Paul King (Grifffith University Queensland Australia) in the 5th Floor Hall of Royal Prima Hospital Jalan Ayahanda Medan.
