Prof. Abu Hassan Ahmad Gives Public Lecture at FKM Unpri
Prof. Abu Hassan Ahmad from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Monday (8/6) gave a public lecture at Universitas Prima Indonesia (Unpri), with the theme 'Controlling Aedes Aegypti Mosquitoes Causing Dengue Fever'. The public lecture, which took place in the Multipurpose Room on the 5th Floor of Royal Prima Hospital, Jalan Ayahanda Medan, was held by the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) Unpri. Present at the event were Unpri Rector Prof. dr. Djakobus Tarigan AAI., DAAK., Dean of FKM Santy Deasy Siregar, SKM., M.Kes., Dean of FK Unpri dr. Yulitas, Sp. A., Dean of FKK Unpri Chrismis Novalinda Ginting, M.Kes., Vice Dean I of FH Unpri Theresia Simatupang, S.H., M.Hum., Vice Dean I of FKM Masryna Siagian, S.P., M.Si., Head of FKM Study Program Herbert Wau, SKM., MPH., lecturers Ir. Abdul Wahab, M.Kes., Rapael Ginting, Lenta Purba, Deans in Unpri, and students of FKM Unpri.
Prof. Abu Hassan Ahmad in the public lecture said, Dengue Fever (DD) and Dengue Fever are caused by infection with the Flavivirus type virus carrying Aedes Aegyti and Aedes Albopictus which transmits the disease virus from person to person through its bite. "Aedes and Aedes Albopictus mosquitoes are small black mosquitoes, have white markings or stripes on the body and legs," said Prof. Abu Hassan Ahmad.
Prof. mentioned. Abu Hasan Ahmad, although various control and prevention efforts have been carried out, this disease is still a serious problem throughout the world. According to him, the use of vaccines is the most effective method for eliminating diseases caused by viruses. However, an effective vaccine to eradicate this disease has yet to be found.
In general, he said, the comprehensive prevention and control methods of the disease include vector control methods, environmental management, biological and chemical methods and methods of strengthening related laws. Meanwhile, Dean of FKM Santy Deasy Siregar, SKM., M.Kes., in his speech stated the need for control of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.
"Dengue fever is caused by the dengue virus and is transmitted through the bites of the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. Until now, no type of drug has been found that can treat dengue fever," said Santy.
In this case, said Santy, good cooperation is needed between the government, the community and all interested elements, in order to control and eradicate DHF. "Here, vector surveillance is also needed to observe mosquito resistance," he said.
On that occasion, Unpri Rector Prof. dr. Djakobus Tarigan AAI., DAAK., congratulated Prof. Abu Hassan Ahmad. And at the end of the event, FKM Dean Santy Deasy Siregar, SKM., M.Kes., presented a plaque from FKM to Prof. Abu Hassan.
